Add another municipality to the shortlist of New York City communities to enact a ban on licensing marijuana dispensaries.
The village of Cazenovia voted 4-0 Thursday night to pass a local law banning the sale of cannabis in the village, according to Mayor Kurt Wheeler.
Recently, Lowville voted unanimously to deny his city permission for the sale of marijuana.
The decision could go on the ballot in Lowville if someone tables a permissive referendum. They have 45 days to collect the required signatures to deposit it on the ballot for residents to vote to register or unsubscribe.
This 45-day clock began on June 17th.
Municipalities have until December 31, 2021 to refuse to authorize cannabis sales.
Cities and towns can refuse to allow cannabis for adult use, retail dispensaries, or on-site consumption licenses to settle in their jurisdictions.
Municipalities cannot refuse the legalization of cannabis by adults.
If a municipality does not withdraw by December 31, it will not be able to withdraw later.
Municipalities can choose to re-authorize one or both, adult retail dispensaries or on-site consumer license types by repealing the local law, who established the ban.
