Did Vladimir Putin ‘plant’ drugs on Brittney Griner? Joy Behar thinks so on ‘The View’

The views Joy Behar never hesitates to challenge government officials, especially when she feels innocent people are being mistreated. And during today’s hot topics segment, Behar suggested that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin may have planted the cannabis vape cartridges in Griner’s luggage that led to his current detention.

“How do we know that this white man, Putin, didn’t have his agents plant this thing on him?” Behar said on the show.

Brittney Griner is an African-American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury team. In February, Griner was in Russia playing overseas for UMMC Ekaterinburg during their WNBA off-season. As she was returning home, customs officers arrested her after they allegedly found vaping cartridges containing hash oil in her luggage at Sheremetyevo airport.

According to Associated press, a Russian court will begin the trial of Brittney Griner on Friday and will also extend her detention for another six months. In Russia, less than 1% of defendants are found not guilty, and if Griner is found guilty, she faces up to 10 years in prison.

Confused and upset, Whoopi Goldberg also came to Griner’s defense: “How stupid should she be not to know – she’s not a stupid woman.” She’s an amazing woman.. so she knows the rules. So this is all BS”

Goldberg isn’t the only American worried about the outcome of the WNBA star’s treatment in Russia. The director of The queen of basketballBen Proudfoot, dedicated his Oscars speech to the athlete in March.

“President Biden, bring Brittney Griner home,” Produfoot said at the time.

Go back on View, Sonny Hostin threw some of the blame from Russia back to the WBNA, noting that “Lebron wouldn’t be here anymore!” One of the reasons she was there is because we pay our female basketball players so poorly in the United States, and that’s shameful.
