The New York Cannabis Control Board will hold its first public meeting on the legalization of marijuana on Tuesday

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Cannabis Control Board, the five-member group responsible for approving the state’s comprehensive regulatory framework for the cannabis industry, will hold its first public meeting on Tuesday.

The board, which was appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul last month, will oversee the licensing of cannabis companies and the approval of various actions taken by the Cannabis Management Bureau.

Tuesday’s meeting will take place at 1:30 pm Members of the public are permitted to attend virtually by videoconference. Videos of each meeting will also be posted after the meeting.

The agenda for the first meeting will include a discussion on ethics, a review of a head of equity and other employment related items, as well as an update on awareness and education.

Hochul has previously said that one of his “top priorities†since Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s replacement has been to get the state’s cannabis industry up and running.

Senator Diane Savino (D-North), a longtime supporter of medical and recreational marijuana, said Hochul was “definitely engaged” and was delighted that appointments were made, bringing the state closer to a implementation program.

“We have to figure out how to get people to do something that they’ve never done before, which is to walk into a store and buy it,†Savino said.

Savino said she believes everyone named should visit other states and speak with industry people, advocates, and small business owners and entrepreneurs to analyze what went well and what went wrong. did not work.
